Since the mid-'80s, Dublin-born Mary Black has been a global ambassador for traditional Irish music. Early on, she paid her dues with the traditional group De Dannan before breaking out with the more contemporary, idiosyncratic material that made her name: 1989's No Frontiers went triple platinum in Ireland and won her plaudits all over the world. She's collaborated with American folk singers Joan Baez and Emmylou Harris, and in recent years has covered artists such as Bob Dylan and Sandy Denny, but remains one of the most authentic Irish voices of all time.
