Eels Essentials

Known to fans simply as E, singer-songwriter Mark Oliver Everett is the driving force behind American alternative rock band Eels. Inspired by eclectic rock mavericks like Tom Waits and Elvis Costello, Everett first released solo albums in the early '90s. He launched the Eels project in 1996 with Beautiful Freak, immediately scoring a surprise alternative hit with the single “Novocain for the Soul.” With a prolific career that's included 10 albums by Eels between 1996 and 2013, along with side-projects like MC Honky and work as a film composer, the wildly diverse Everett has composed everything from offbeat hip-hop to somber folk to orchestral pop.
