Hardcore punk influences underlie Carpathian Forest's caustic version of Norwegian death metal. Formed by vocalist Nattefrost and guitarist Nordavind in 1990, the diabolical duo behind this band were unconcerned with the technical precision that consumes their peers. They bring the live-wire chaos of a garage band into the field of black metal. Like a muscle car almost spinning out of control on an icy Scandinavian highway, the band push the speed limit in every song, always threatening to spin out as tales of S&M, suicide and satanism go flying by the windows. With a rotating cast of fellow band members, Nattefrost's relentless touring and confrontational stage show have spread Carpathian Forest's brand of satanic speed metal far and wide.
