Bertrand Belin Essentials

Bertrand Belin spent much of the '90s playing in various Cajun and experimental jazz bands before finding his true calling in the mid-00s as a crooner of beautifully spare chansons. Anchored by his deep, sonorous voice—which recalls the grand patriarch of sardonic franco-pop, Serge Gainsbourg—Belin's stripped-down, conversational songs feel simultaneously regal and ragged, like an expensive suit worn down to frayed threads.
