At Home with Stephen Fry

For Stephen Fry, very little comes close to the extraordinary power of music. “Music takes me to places of illimitable sensual and insensate joy, accessing points of ecstasy that no angelic lover could ever locate,” the actor, writer and comedian wrote in his 1999 memoir Moab Is My Washpot. So it’s unsurprising that, in these uncertain times, Fry has turned to his record collection. “These are a mixture of some of my favourite songs and tracks that—while not specifically chosen for the current emergency—each manage in their own way to elate, soothe, energise, calm, amuse or delight,” Fry tells Apple Music. His diverse, carefully curated playlist for Apple Music’s At Home series takes in everything from the life-affirming tones of Louis Armstrong and Nina Simone to awe-inspiring classical, via euphoric nostalgia (courtesy of David Bowie’s “Starman”) and belters to kickstart your day when you need it most (we give you: The Chemical Brothers’ “Galvanize” ). “While I wouldn’t dream of insulting the universe by going so far as to dance, some of them do get my feet tapping and body swaying in an almost musical fashion,” adds the never-not-self-deprecating Fry. “Hope you enjoy.”
