After more than 20 years with new-flamenco fusioneers Ketama, singer Antonio Carmona kicked off his potent pop-flamenco second act in 2006 with Vengo Venenoso. Retaining the genre's raw, plaintive vocals and powerful pulse (he's an excellent percussionist), Carmona expands the palette with the help of fellow Spaniards like rapper Mala Rodríguez and balladeer Alejandro Sanz, as well as guests like Nelly Furtado. Carmona confidently triangulates Hispanic sounds from Cuba and Latin America, carving out intriguing new territory with luxurious productions.
