About Zach Witness

Producer Zach Witness seemed to come from nowhere in November 2015, when his name was attached to each track on Erykah Badu's whimsical mixtape But You Caint Use My Phone. The name might have been unknown to most fellow natives of Dallas, Texas, but some of them undoubtedly knew of Witness' activity as DJ White Chocolate, one of the key figures behind the rink-centric "D-town boogie" scene. After Witness made a name for himself as a DJ, his astral remix of Badu's "Bag Lady" reached Badu herself, who was impressed enough to seek him for a collaboration. A two-week session in Witness' bedroom studio resulted in Badu's off-the-cuff tape, which also featured an appearance from André 3000. Witness' encounter with one-half of OutKast -- who he had admired since childhood -- had such a profound effect on him that he recorded an OutKast-themed EP with the intent to give it only to André as a token of gratitude. The recipient liked it so much that Witness opted to make some touchups and release it officially. Electric Revival: Rise of an OutKast Nation, a five-track digital EP, was issued on Alpha Pup in August 2017. Witness referred to it as "pre-game music for protests." ~ Andy Kellman
