About Tami Lynn
b. USA. Tami Lynn was one of several New Orleans, Louisiana, USA-based artists who worked for Harold Battiste’s AFO (All For One) label during the early 60s. She sang on A Compendium, an album that featured the co-operative’s crack houseband, but this phase in her career was forestalled when the company folded. Tami’s best-known single, ‘I’m Gonna Run Away From You’, was originally released in 1967. This powerful Bert Berns composition failed to register in America, but became a belated UK hit in 1971, when it reached number 4. Its popularity was confirmed four years later when it again entered the Top 40. Lynn had meanwhile continued to record, but this excellent performance remains her most lasting legacy.
