About Spencer Ross

USA-born Spencer Ross was a musical arranger during the 40s who went on to release a bestselling single, ‘Tracy’s Theme’, under his own name in 1960. Ross was an arranger for the Gordon Jenkins orchestra in the 40s, before going to work for both Big Top and Columbia Records in the 50s. ‘Tracy’s Theme’, written by Robert Ascher and featuring Jimmy Abato on saxophone, was recorded for Columbia in late 1959 and was used in the television special The Philadelphia Story. It then took off with the record-buying public, ultimately reaching number 13. Ross recorded an album and a handful of singles similar to his hit but never found his way up the charts again.
