About Rainer Veil

Manchester duo Rainer Veil produced a languid, melancholy style of electronic music that took influence from genres as many and diverse as ambient drone, dream pop, hip-hop, jungle, U.K. garage, and techno. Liam Morley and Dan Valentine met while studying contemporary music in the north of England, and began improvising together, producing drone music, before they hit on a new production method: starting out with fully composed and realized pop songs which they then radically reworked, deconstructing and manipulating them into something completely different and much more abstract. Their demo caught the ear of cult label Modern Love (home to Andy Stott, Claro Intelecto, and Demdike Stare), which quickly snapped them up. After making a well-received appearance at the label's "takeover" of the über-hip Boiler Room club in London, in early 2013 they dropped their debut 12" EP, Struck, which garnered much critical acclaim. While the music on the release bore some similarity to Andy Stott's "knackered house" sound, it had a distinct identity of its own and was hailed as a brave new direction for the label.
