Outrage and rough beauty have always dominated Peryodiko frontman Vin Dancel’s songwriting since his days as the unofficial firebrand of Pinoy indie rock. Out of Twisted Halo's ashes—his perennially underrated late 1990s outfit—Peryodiko was founded in 2006 on a shared melodic slacker and garage rock vision, expressing distaste at the absurd, surreal events that often dominated the headlines via their name (translated as “newspaper”). And through lineup changes to 2016’s Cara y Cruz, the band’s potent post-punk rage is still on form as they sing about the tragedy and romance of being a modern Filipino.
