About Marc Copland

Marc Copland began his musical career as a saxophonist, playing alto with Chico Hamilton in the early '70s shortly after arriving in New York. He soon took time off, however, and changed direction, re-emerging as a pianist whose lyricism sometimes recalls Bill Evans and Keith Jarrett. Copland has recorded as a leader for many labels including Sunnyside and Hatology. Copland is a talented sideman and ensemble and duo partner. He has appeared with a variety of modern mainstream all-stars including bassist Gary Peacock, trumpeter Tim Hagans, guitarists John Abercrombie and Ralph Towner, and saxophonist David Liebman. He and drummer Joey Baron were in Peacock's 80th birthday trio for the recording Now This, released on ECM in 2015. ~ Scott Yanow
