About John Cerminaro
The technical virtuosity of British symphonic music has been combined with the thicker and richer American style by Texas-born horn player John Cerminaro. A former principal horn player for the New York Philharmonic from 1979 until 1989 and the Los Angeles Symphony from 1990 until 1997 under the direction of Carlo Maria Guilini, Cerminaro has been principal horn player for the Seattle Symphony Orchestra since late 1998. A regular teacher and performer at the Aspen Music School since 1964, he celebrated his 30th anniversary at the school as the soloist by playing an interpretation of Mozart's "Second Horn Concerto" with Robert Spano and the Aspen Festival Orchestra. His solo albums -- Screamers, The Solo Horn, A New Slain Knight, and Evening Voluntaries -- have shown his passion for avant-garde music. Cerminaro's talents have been obvious since earliest memory. He made his debut with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra at the age of 16 and subsequently sharpened his skills at the Juilliard School of Music, where he received a prestigious Naumburg Award. ~ Craig Harris
