A flamenco guitar part here, a classical touch there—Jinbara are not your typical rock kapak-influenced band. Sure, the blistering, distortion-heavy solos and hard-pounding drums have featured prominently ever since their 2000 debut. But it was their signature unpredictability and former lead singer Tia’s ability to sing both heavy-rock tunes and traditional Malay soul that kept fans loyal. In 2018, Jinbara ended a six-year hiatus with new frontman Din and a track two years in the making, “Wayang”, that surprised fans with its samba-flavoured sound.
