About JAWNY

Funk-pop singer and songwriter JAWNY is a genre-bending artist whose home-recorded 2019 track “Honeypie” surpassed 100 million plays. • The Bay Area native has played guitar since he was six and produced songs since his teens. At 15, he began making beats for aspiring rappers. • He initially recorded under the name Johnny Utah. The name is taken from Keanu Reeves’ character in the 1991 film Point Break. • The name JAWNY is an homage to popular slang in Philadelphia, where he moved when he was 20. The colloquialism “jawn” is an all-purpose noun that can mean pretty much anything. • He recorded 2019’s “Honeypie” in his West Philadelphia apartment, mixing and mastering the song himself. • As “Honeypie” gained steam, it received a major boost from TikTok. More than 65,000 videos have been made using the catchy groove. • At the top of 2020, JAWNY signed with Interscope Records. Released that same year, his major label debut mixtape For Abby is a 10-song concept piece about a guy trying to win back his ex.
