About Easley Blackwood

Easley Blackwood studied with Olivier Messiaen, Paul Hindemith, and Nadia Boulanger. He took a position at University of Chicago in 1958 and received many awards and prizes. His career as a pianist was marked by a challenging repertoire that included the second sonatas of Charles Ives and Pierre Boulez as well as solo works by Schoenberg, Berg, and Webern. His compositional work was complex, with chromatic, polyrhythmic textures. Easley Blackwood died in Chicago, Illinois on January 22, 2023 at the age of 89. ~ Lynn Vought
