Sunaree Ratchasima is a pioneer of contemporary luk thung—a traditional style of Thai music which emerged from folk artists and travelling theatre. Ratchasima's crystalline vocal—which lends itself to the more melancholic side of this classic sound—rests amidst a flurry of gentle percussion, sweeping orchestration and brass instrumentation. While a distinctly Thai artist, Ratchasima ocassionally ventures into Indonesian dangdut and Japanese enka; her vocals deftly transitioning on these songs from tender intensity to climactic—near operatic—finales.
