Jody Chiang has a calling to sing in Taiwanese. For 30 years, her music has spoken to both young people and older generations in Taiwan, with songs that focus on family, friendship and love reflecting the social necessity of moving away from home to make a living. Musically, she has never limited herself to one style, mixing folk songs and ballads with elements of pop, rock and R&B. She also uses her popularity as a springboard for younger artists by inviting them to write songs for her, with Jay Chou getting his first break into song writing by penning her hit tune “Sound of Rain” in 1999.
