Runner-up on The Voice HK in 2011, Jay Fung quickly capitalised on the exposure with a widely familiar, Westernised version of Cantopop—upbeat, relatable and youthful. Strumming his guitar since he was a teenager living in Canada, he really blossomed as a singer-songwriter when he returned to his roots to pursue his music career. A song like “Keep on Fight on” remains catchy and confidence-boosting, whether as a simple voice and piano ballad or in a slick pop anthem featuring local hip-hop king MastaMic. And when Mr Fung exposes his more sentimental side, he pulls it off beautifully.
