About Rain Parade

The Rain Parade are one of the foundational bands of the early-'80s Paisley Underground scene, an alliance of West Coast artists deeply indebted to the psych and pop sounds of the 1960s. Their 1983 debut album, Emergency Third Rail Power Trip, combined languid tempos, streamlined melodies, and impressionistic lyrics. They faced a major setback when founding member David Roback left to form Opal, though they bounced back to release an EP steeped in folk-rock and epic guitar workouts (1984's Explosions in the Glass Palace), and an LP that cut back on psychedelia in favor of more modern rock sounds (1986's Crashing Dream). They re-formed in the 2000s to play a series of shows, and 2023's Last Rays of a Dying Sun hit a graceful midpoint between the subtlety of the debut album and the harder attack of Crashing Dream.
