About Elizabeth King

Elizabeth King is a Memphis-based sacred soul and gospel singer. Possessed of a powerful, quaking contralto, she has led church services and performed on gospel radio since the 1980s. She cut "Testify," her first single, on the Designer label in 1969. As the frontwoman of the otherwise all-male Gospel Souls, she recorded five singles and an album between 1970 and 1973, but the long-player was never released. King retired from touring to raise a family, and her music-making was confined to church and the airwaves. However, in 2019, her family grown and gone, Bruce Watson signed her to the Bible & Tire Recording Company. She was back in a recording studio within a week. In 2021, King, aged 77, released her debut album, Living in the Last Days, followed in 2022 by I Got a Love. In 2024, King issued Soul Provider, her third album on Bible & Tire.
