About Claudio Astronio

Versatile Italian musician Claudio Astronio is active as both a conductor and a keyboardist (on both harpsichord and organ) in music from Baroque to pop and jazz. He leads his own historical performance ensemble, Harmonices Mundi, which has recorded both Italian and German Baroque music. Astronio made his debut in 1998 as a harpsichordist, releasing several volumes of music by Antonio de Cabezón under the title Obras de Música. In 2004, Astronio recorded his first album as a conductor, leading a performance of Alessandro Stradella's oratorio San Giovanni Batista. Astronio formed the Theresia youth Baroque orchestra in 2012 (often styled THERESIA). Astronio returned on recordings in 2024, conducting Theresia on an album of overtures by composer Joseph Martin Kraus.
