Jakarta pop-jazz veteran Andien—born Andini Aisyah Haryadi in 1985—began her career as a teen sensation at the dawn of the 2000s. Following her own compass, she eschewed dance-pop in favour of bossa nova and show tunes before switching things up for her 2002 sophomore breakthrough, the R&B-influenced Kinanti—always spotlighting her sweet and supple contralto vocals. They’re her calling card in a prolific career that has established her as one of the most recognisable and beloved voices in contemporary Indonesian music and a regular fixture at the prestigious Java Jazz Festival.
