Nata Montana

Nata Montana

There’s scarcely any ambiguity to Nata Montana. Natanael Cano’s first album since 2022’s NataKong boasts cover art directly inspired by the movie Scarface, with the corridos tumbados kingpin himself taking the place of Al Pacino’s titular crime lord. Mindful of the thematic parallels, Cano rose in the ranks of the Rancho Humilde label to become a leader in contemporary música mexicana. “Mas Altas Que Bajadas” acknowledges this journey to the top, finding him reflective over the highs and lows that brought him here. Unlike his prior full-length, Nata Montana eschews the trap-beat detours altogether, focusing instead on the format he helped pioneer via cuts like “Dando y Dando” and “Mi Bello Ángel”. The guest list impresses as well, with notables like Junior H and Tito Torbellino Jr joining for duets while 2023 breakout star Peso Pluma appears on “AMG” (alongside Gabito Ballesteros) and “Pancake”.
