Accusefive’s Summer Nights

Accusefive’s Summer Nights

Clearly, this hasn’t been a typical summer for Accusefive. Forced to take a break from their regular touring schedule, the rising indie stars are instead taking the time to work on themselves. “This summer, we’ve all stayed at home,” the band tells Apple Music. Vocalist Chuan Ching is taking the opportunity to brush up on her cooking skills. Vocalist and guitarist Pan Yun-An learned how to fix sinks and toilets. Drummer Richard has been in his vegetable garden enjoying the independent country life. “This playlist is for everyone staying at home this summer. The pandemic might’ve changed the outside world, but it’ll never take away our inner capacity for limitless imagination or the summertime’s inherent romance.” Setting the mood with Accusefive’s own “Take Me to the Nightlife” and “Love in Summer”, this eclectic collection spans international pop hits, Mandopop classics, contemporary indie, funk and more. Among the trio’s absolute favourites are Leslie Cheung’s iconic Cantopop song “Chase” and Bob Marley’s reggae smash “Is This Love”. “I loved Leslie even before I became a singer,” says Yun-An. “Once in a concert, he told the fans, ‘I don’t know if you’ll remember me, but I’ll always remember you.’ I was moved to tears—how could any performer be like him, as immortal as him? I chose this song as a way of chasing him.” “‘Is This Love’ is the first reggae song I learned to play,” says Lin. “I saw people dancing to ska tunes online and sat thinking to myself about the wonderful experiences that music can bring about. Then, I saved up and bought a few more reggae albums.” Yun-An recommends “La La La Love Song” by Toshinobu Kubota and “執迷不悔” (“No Regrets”) by Faye Wong. “These are hits in different languages and different meanings can be brought out of them—especially when we’re listening to them in the ambience of the night. Find your own love story and experience all of the beauty of its ‘entanglement’,” he says. Lin recommends the band’s own song, “跳海” (“Leap into the Sea”) as well as Engelbert Humperdinck’s “Quando Quando Quando” and Gary Moore’s “Walking by Myself”. He says, “Summer is here! The first two songs inevitably bring up passionate feelings; still, because of the pandemic, we need to keep ourselves in check and focus on fighting against the spread of the virus. Let’s look forward to life after lockdown!” Finally, Chuan Ching recommends Sweet John’s “Rain Onto the One” and boy pablo’s “Dance, Baby!” She says, “Summer is all about dancing in the rain. There may be a pandemic but we can still listen to these songs in our room, watching the rain fall outside our window—and feel a bit romantic.
