About The Black Crowes

The Black Crowes were a Southern outfit that channeled the spirit of ’70s blues rock and burst onto the charts in the early ’90s. ∙ Formed in 1994 as Mr. Crowe’s Garden and anchored by brothers Chris and Rich Robinson, the band changed their name after signing to Rick Rubin’s Def American label in 1989. ∙ Their 1990 debut LP, Shake Your Money Maker, went multi-Platinum, with the singles “Hard To Handle” and “She Talks To Angels” reaching No. 1 on Billboard’s Album Rock Tracks chart. ∙ The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion, the Crowes’ 1992 sophomore album, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. ∙ In 1999, the band teamed up with Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page for a short run of concerts, and recordings of their L.A. shows were used to create the album Live at the Greek. ∙ Following a hiatus, the group returned to form with the 2008 LP Warpaint, and they recorded the follow-up, Before the Frost... Until the Freeze, in Woodstock with The Band’s Levon Helm. ∙ Rich Robinson announced The Black Crowes’ breakup in 2015, but they later reconciled and scheduled an extended tour celebrating the 30th anniversary of Shake Your Money Maker.
