La Ley Essentials

La Ley became one of Chile's biggest bands by creating rock you can dance to: rhythmic tracks that call to mind a Spanish-language blend of Depeche Mode and the Rolling Stones. That sound pulses through 1995's "El Duelo", where drummer Mauricio Claveria pounds uptempo quarter notes as sustained synths and New Order-style guitar glide towards an arena-ready hook. Later, in 2001, they showed their range by stripping down for an MTV Unplugged that revealed the songwriting chops below the electronics. Here, on songs like "Mentira", flamenco guitar dances around sombre lyrics.
