Jimmie Dale Gilmore: Next Steps
Apple Music
Before setting out on a solo path, Jimmie Dale Gilmore quietly made history with his early-'70s band The Flatlanders, formed with fellow Texas legends Joe Ely and Butch Hancock. Between Gilmore's gliding vocal presence, Ely's gutsy grit and Hancock's post-Dylan poetics, they struck on alt-country a generation before anybody else on tunes like the mystic-kissed "Bhagavan Decreed" and the gospel-tinged "Down in My Hometown".
