Jamaican culture and Bob Marley had a lasting influence in Latin America, with reggae en español outfits blossoming everywhere from Argentina to Panama. Puerto Rico's Cultura Profética is one of the prime purveyors of this percolating scene, mixing a reverential approach to reggae fundamentals with inevitable Latin flavour. The band casts soulful riddim lust spells (“Ilegal”) and explores Afro-Caribbean offshoots (“Silencio Hospital”) with equal grace. The lineup has changed since the band's inception in 1996, but the culture prophets still bring sweet, sweet music.
