Taiwanese singer and Hong Kong film star Charmaine Fong has shown sophisticated songwriting chops since her 2002 Mandarin-language debut (she switched to Cantopop a few years later). After focusing on tragic balladry on her early albums, she adopted a dancing-queen image. She inherited her hard-working attitude from her mother, whom Fong celebrated in a moving testimony to maternal sacrifice.
