1981 年，New Order 推出了首張單曲；同年，《Heaven Up Here》為 Echo & The Bunnymen 帶來了《NME》 音樂雜誌的最佳專輯獎。當年還有 Depeche Mode、Japan 和 The Birthday Party 等樂團帶來多首流行度破表的獨立金曲，就隨著音樂回到 1981 年。
