Motown: The '70s

Changing with the times, Motown started to dismantle the Hitsville U.S.A. pop assembly line in the early '70s, giving unprecedented artistic freedom to geniuses like Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder. The result saw the best albums of their career. After the label moved from Detroit to Los Angeles, a slicker funk and disco sound kept Motown at the centre of American R&B.
