About George Thorogood & The Destroyers
Over the course of their career, blues rock band George Thorogood & The Destroyers has sold more than 15 million albums, with six going Gold and two Platinum. ∙ Thorogood’s backing band was originally known as the Delaware Destroyers, but the state name was dropped when the group relocated to Boston in the late ’70s. ∙ Their big break came in 1981, when they toured with The Rolling Stones, including a New Orleans date that set a record for the largest indoor concert ever held. ∙ The Destroyers’ 50-50 Tour, in support of the album I’m Wanted, took them to 50 states in 50 nights—and all but Hawaii and Alaska in a Checker cab. ∙ Their 1985 hit “I Drink Alone” was originally intended for country superstar George Jones, until Thorogood’s label persuaded the singer to keep it for the Destroyers. ∙ After more than 40 years of playing with the Destroyers, Thorogood released his first solo album, Party of One, in 2017—a tribute to the artists who shaped his sound. ∙ In 2020, Thorogood launched a streaming series, One Bourbon, One Scotch, and One Story, in which he and his band recount their history and musical influences.
