Rich Mavoko hits the ground running on his debut album, Fundi. Across its 16 tracks, the Tanzanian singer deploys the same cheerful energy from his evergreen hit, 2014’s “Pacha Wangu”. The album is also a call to action, a consolidation of the melodic bongo flava for which contemporary Tanzanian artists have become known. From the xylophonic underlay on “Kopo” to the amapiano twist and Afrobeat influences sprinkled elsewhere on the project, pan-Africanness is in full bloom.
