La Sonora Dinamita Essentials

Colombia's La Sonora Dinamita earned their explosive moniker. If not for them, the cumbia revolution that blew up all over Latin America might have turned out very differently to say the least. The first incarnation of the band burned briefly but brightly in the early ‘60s before a revamped version appeared in the mid-‘70s. By the early ‘80s, with singer Mélida Yará in front of the band's big brass section, La Sonora Dinamita really started taking off, and with a series of equally gifted vocalists following in her footsteps, the band has maintained its status as cumbia royalty ever since.
