As a rapper, producer and multi-instrumentalist, Wyclef Jean has always had a knack of infusing world music into his projects. Born in Haiti, he came to prominence in the '90s as part of the New Jersey hip-hop trio the Fugees. The success of their second album, The Score, would propel the trio to superstardom—a move that prompted Clef to release his own eclectic debut solo album The Carnival. It was a commercial and critical hit and spawned the crossover smash single “Gone Till November”.
