Tomahawk are a dream come true for anybody who worships the weirder manifestations of ’90s alt-metal and noise rock. Leading the attack is Faith No More’s perpetually surreal Mike Patton, whose screaming, gurgling and heavy panting can be heard all over the string of albums that Tomahawk have dropped since forming in 1999. And then there are his high-profile co-founders: guitarist Duane Denison (of The Jesus Lizard) and imposing Helmet drummer John Stanier. Both are brutal and tight enough to crush eardrums, yet they’re also wildly versatile, enabling the band to try just about any move: jazz, punk, even film-score-inspired songwriting.
