The Dismemberment Plan Essentials

The Dismemberment Plan Essentials

Most bands wouldn't be able to make the stylistic jump from jangly indie pop to thundering post-hardcore within the same album—let alone the same song—but The Dismemberment Plan made it look easy. Exploring dance-punk and synth-pop elements before the '00s made them cool, the band broke new ground with 1999's Emergency & I, a jittery love letter to the growing pains of adulthood fittingly delayed to the turn of the millennium. They broke up in 2003 but reunited for live shows in 2010, even returning to the studio for a victory lap in 2013's Uncanney Valley.
