Steven Curtis Chapman: Influences

Steven Curtis Chapman's debt to CCM's earliest singer/songwriters can't be overstated. He takes a cue from Randy Stonehill's feathery “Still, Small Voice” with his confessional lyrics and softly textured folk rock. But Chapman also grew up on country, studying Glen Campbell's “Try a Little Kindness” for its sweetly uplifting hooks and George Jones' “He Stopped Loving Her Today” for the crooner's tenderness.
