Rory Gallagher Essentials

This gifted Irish guitar hero's '61 Fender Stratocaster helped connect American blues to a new wave of British rock and folk. Gallagher formed the power trio Taste in 1966, and the electric "Gambling Blues" was recorded just prior to their 1970 break-up. The frantic slide-guitar blues boogie of "Laundromat" foreshadows the mature Gallagher of 1985's "Shin Kicker", which rages and simmers before relaunching to an epic conclusion. He pays tribute to an equally uncommercial peer with Peter Green's world-weary "Showbiz Blues", recorded the year before Gallagher's 1995 demise.
