O.A.R. Essentials

A bit more anxious but no less laidback than their festival brethren, O.A.R. (short for Of a Revolution) substitute giant guitar riffs for cosmic noodling, as in their 2005 hit "Love and Memories". They're a band with breadth: The sax solo of "Right On Time" nods to jazz, while the sexy Caribbean vibe of "Lay Down" echoes blue-eyed reggae acts like UB40. And if O.A.R. haven't recorded anything more epically gonzo than "That Was a Crazy Game of Poker", it may be because they're swinging for the fences, with the help of a gospel chorus, in "Heaven". They're the jam band for listeners with no time to jam.
