Lynda Lemay Essentials

Though she hails from Quebec, Lynda Lemay has received her warmest reception in the French-speaking countries of Europe, where her adult-contemporary spins on folky chanson traditions have lit up the charts since the ‘90s. While she first gained notice with powerful piano ballads like 1994’s “Le plus fort c’est mon père” (a touching tribute to her father’s fortitude), Lemay slips into rootsy acoustic serenades like “Une mère” as if they were an old pair of jeans. Into the 2020s, her gift for stirring storytelling is undiminished, as she gives voice to an eldery woman dying of dementia on the intensely poignant “Le souhait de Carmen”.
