Starting off as an actor in the late '90s, Ko Shibasaki eventually branched out into a musical career every bit as impressive as her filmography. Just after breaking out nationally in the gory movie Battle Royale, she made her pop debut and soon established herself as a truly versatile performer. Early albums such as 2005's Hitori Asobi found her singing big, dramatic ballads with lots of strings, but she was soon releasing jittery electro-pop featuring a healthy dose of Auto-Tune.
