Los Angeles singer/songwriter Ken Sharp has authored multiple books about ’60s and ’70s rock and pop, and he’s funnelled his deep knowledge into his own music, which brings a modern touch to his vintage power-pop influences. The sunny, ’60s-indebted “Maybe Next Summer” from 2022’s I’ll Remember the Laughter Volume 1 gives Beach Boys fans something new to love, and the surging clap-along “Rock & Roll Supershow” breathes new life into T. Rex-ish glam rock, while the fabtastic “She Hates the Beatles” brings postmodern humour to assessing deal-breakers for a romantic partner. Through it all, Sharp keeps the classic pop/rock verities alive.
