John Scofield Essentials

By the time jazz electric guitarist John Scofield had left Berklee College of Music in the early ‘70s to play with Chet Baker and Gerry Mulligan, he had already established himself as a gifted improviser, equally well-versed in post-bop, soul, funk, and fusion. He earned further distinction as a sideman with the Billy Cobham/George Duke Band, as well as in sessions with Charles Mingus, before touring the globe with Miles Davis in the ‘80s. Scofield has since become a bandleader in his own right, teaming successfully with vets like Eddie Harris and newer talent like Medeski, Martin & Wood.
