Hank Williams III Essentials

Hank Williams III Essentials

As the grandson of country icon Hank Williams and son of Hank Williams, Jr., one might expect Hank Williams III to follow in the family tradition of roots music. However, Hank III has embraced a wider—and louder—musical palette that includes punk and metal. His relationship with country music has been fractious since his 1997 debut, Risin' Outlaw, which led to a lengthy legal battle with Curb Records. Hank III has found more satisfying outlets with his metal band Assjack, through indie-label releases and via side projects like Superjoint Ritual with Pantera's Phil Anselmo.
