Inspired by traditional elements like mbalax, soukous and rumba, this is where sample-based Coupé-Décalé meets the R&B, rap and eclectic Afropop of a new generation of French-speaking African artists. Adding to the continent's familiar percussive polyrhythms are fresh, soulful and groovy francophone voices that draw from diasporic influences as well as stories of home.
