Bill Callahan: Influences

Bill Callahan: Influences

Bill Callahan may cut a unique figure in indie rock and beyond, but he visibly channels his heroes all the same. You can hear in him the unwavering presence of Scott Walker, the tender purity of Judee Sill and the stark country balladry of Lee Hazlewood and Townes Van Zandt. As far back as his askew early work as Smog, the ropey, rugged repetition of John Lee Hooker and The Velvet Underground comes through in his cyclical guitar passages.
