Drummer Chris Reifert sounds like a growling high priest while Eric Cutler and Danny Coralles' guitars tangle and torment one another in this Bay Area death-metal outfit formed in 1987. The band eventually applied the brakes to their early thrash, adopting a sludgier, more punk-influenced sound as they neared their 1995 demise. But never fear: Autopsy rose from the dead in 2009 to rejoin the legions of the night with renewed portents of doom.
