About Shep & The Limelites
An elegant doo-wop group centered around the silken vocals of James "Shep" Sheppard, Shep and the Limelites created one of the genre's enduring classics with the sensual lullaby "Daddy's Home," a #2 pop hit in 1961. That iconic song is merely one part of one of the earliest known song-cycles in popular music. Sheppard had penned "A Thousand Miles Away" and "500 Miles to Go," hits for his previous group, the Heartbeats. Sheppard continued the theme with tracks like "Ready for Your Love" and 'Three Steps From the Altar," but never climbed the upper reaches of the charts ever again. The Limelites broke up in 1966, and four years later Sheppard was shot and killed by a robber.
